I Discovered Susanne Engman whilst researching some other designers.
Love the type and layout styles that she tends to work with.
Really girly and has a comic book feel to it.
Love the bright colours that are constantly been used.
Again, it's simple design but extremely effective.

:: ANTHONY BURRILL

I discovered the work of Anthony Burrill in a book called "Introducing-Designs for making a first impression"
Now that we have started our 'Optional Module" in the 2nd year, now is the time I need to focus on design that inflluences me, what helps drive my own work. I love the work I have seen by Anthony Burrill, the colours of the stocks he works on and the typeface that he uses throughout most of his work, it's lovely!
It's simple and straight-to-the-point design, nothing over the top about it. Simple is most effective in many cases and this work is a perfect example of that.
Black, block, bold, clear typeface is what drives most of this work.



Anthony studied Graphic Design at Leeds Polytechnic before completing his MA at the Royal College of Art, London.
He works as a freelance designer producing print, moving image and interactive design based on direct communication in which humour often plays a central role. His projects have included poster campaigns for London Underground, DIESEL, Hans Brinker Budget Hotel, Playstation, Nike and interactive web based projects for Kraftwerk and Air.

Out of all the topics and images I have featured on my blog, very little of it has anything to do with what I'm actually REALLY interested in and what Im most interested in producing when doing briefs, or what inspires me the most.

Everything featured here is from a book called 'Graphic Elements'
When given a new brief...that might somehow relate to the work featured in this book, this is where i look for inspiration. :D
Here is just a small handful of the work, but there is soooo much more. these are my favourites.....


I love quirky designs. Things that can catch my eye...no matter what it's advertising, if it's made from interesing material, something that's not a common thing used, a novelty to pick and keep. That's the kind of stuff I really love


Out of everything in this post, these elastic bands are my favourite. Printing onto a different stock. It's cute! Really tiny typeface too, LOVE IT!

Another one of my favourite designs, taken something that would be boring and forgotten about in the office and completely transformed it. Have made a feature out of it really simply, just a slight alteration can work wonders.

Again, one of my favourite pieces of work, it's different. Nt you average design. Taken something, the tape, that has the potential to be really boring and forgotten about. But just by printing a bit of colour and type onto it it's tranformed into something I would love to own and be proud of! Some beautiful design!

:: THE SIGHTS OF SPAIN & BARCELONA

When I went on my holiday to Spain back in September, I wasn't expecting to come across many Graphic related stuff that interested me, but these three images of some street art, just at the side of a seating area in the centre on Lloret de Mar that I came across are AMAZING!
They're a bit odd, but the colours are so vibrant and stood out like a sore thumb, I was fascinated!
If only I could understand what some of the writing was about...





This was the only interesting stuff that I came across in the town I was staying...but on one of our days in Spain we decided to jump on a coach and visit Barcelona for the day....where I came across all sorts of lovely things....

This is the Barcelona metro map....just the same as everywhere else in the world, but is nice just to see another layout!

This my favourite picture out of all the ones I managed to take in Barcelona!
I found this series of illustrations near the Mercado de la Boqueria (Boqueria Market) just off The Rambles (Ramblas).
It was in a really random location-just above some of the large industrial bins from the market, way up near the ceiling!
But they're sooo sweet! The pastel type colours and crisp lines, it should be somewhere much nicer, but stands out sooo much because of it's disgusting location!



On the Ramblas, one of the busiest and most famous streets of Barcelona, they have loads and loads of different stalls, from fruit and veg, to souvenirs, to flowers to clothes etc....but then when I got to a certain point, there was LOADAS of stalls which were selling animals and reptiles and stuff!
It was horrible!
Loads of people around the tiny tanks that were far too small for them!
Pish! Not impressed!
But the turtles were sooooo cute!


This is another of my favourite images.....just on the back of one of the paper stands. Really simple, would have been nice to see it as a full thing, cos a lot of it has been ripped off!
It looks really detailed, but when you get up close there's not much too it....it's FAB!

As part of our coach trip, after spending a few hours in the city of Barcelona, we went upto the Natonal Palace and the Magical Fountain, where we were to spend a few hours watching the fountain dance to certain songs (shown below)

Becasue we went the Barcelona as just an afternoon/evening tour, I didnt get to see as much as I would have liked! and because none of the other girls I'd gone with have interest in Graphic design, they weren't up for looking around for that kind of stuff, but one day soon, or a week soon, i would LOVE to go back there and see all the many other things that I missed!
Barcelona was AMMMMAZING!
