Cult Fiction, Comic Art explores the relationship between popular media – specifically comics, cartoons, illustration and contemporary art. Characterised by their directness, and accessibility, the comic and the cartoon with their combination of word and image, embrace humour, pathos and the absurd and have, since the end of the nineteenth–century, provided a powerful site for opposition, resistance, for critique and for satirical observations of life. Cult Fiction, Comic Art will present a more recent generation of artists who both produce comics and employ the language of the comic and the cartoon in their work, alongside the work of comic artists.
