:: BENOIT LEMOINE

Benoit Lemoine is a French designer. I came across his work in a book called Data Flow and thought it was really quirky and inspirational and wanted to check out more of his work, not just that featured in the book.

Code Typographique
A cipher is transmuted to an alphabet. The outline of a font is traced using wool. The lengths of wool are then displayed as a new alphabet, creating a typographic, machine readable code based on distances and proportions.
Very clever idea....so simple, yet so complicated....

Corps Typographique
The human body is shown as an ambiguous code. A series of posters that address a particular theme, explained through a little scene. One image per letter.
I don't quite get this one, go to the website to understand it more...cos it's confused me. But still, it looks good!

"We are also dedicated to ethical business practices and being responsible stewards of the earth. We are the first certified Zero Waste, 100% carbon neutral, 100% renewable-energy powered, design and advertising firm in the world. Is this something we promote? No, we simply believe that it is the little things each of us do as humans that can make a cumulative difference. We frequently take on pro bono projects for social and environmental causes, and occasionally reduce our rates for clients that share our belief in 'giving back' to the world. Many of our employees walk or bike to work. One of our past employees even managed to commute to work without driving for three years straight. The team at Moxie Sozo shares the full spectrum of political and religious beliefs. We have vegetarians and meat eaters. One thing that we all agree on: All of us share responsibility for making this world a better place." Moxie Sozo website

:: CELERY

Celery is a design studio focused on creating communications that have a positive impact in the world. We do cutting-edge green design and brand strategy work across many media.
One of Celery’s roles over the years has been as an advocate for a new model of graphic design that deals proactively with social and environmental challenges. Through frequent lectures, magazine articles and public outreach projects such as the Ecological Guide to Paper, Celery has worked to influence other graphic designers to embrace sustainability as a crucial design objective.

^
The Natural Step (TNS) — a non-profit research, education and advisory group that helps corporations and communities move toward sustainability— wanted an updated brand as it opened its first U.S. office. Celery designed a comprehensive identity and collateral system that walks the talk of eco-innovation. The logo references the mythological symbol of regeneration: a serpent eating its own tail. The letterhead is perforated and scored for easy self-mailing, which eliminates the need for most envelopes.

^
Used bottles are collected, cleaned, sterilized and sold for reuse. The labels are printed with low VOC vegetable inks on 100%PCW recycled stock. All-in-all, it’s packaging with a big impact on the shelf and a small impact on the planet.

^
Lemnis bulbs represent the future of lighting. Using LED technology that’s eight times more effective than CFL, each bulb is mercury-free and lasts an average of 35 years.
But they’re pricey. And therein lies the rub: how do you convince people that they will save money by spending $25 on a light bulb?
We decided that buying the future of lighting shouldn’t feel like buying a plain old incandescent. So we developed a box (from recycled paper) that refolds into a stylish modern lampshade. The solution looks innovative on the shelf, adds tangible value to the purchase, and by being reusable, honors the brand’s conservation-minded ethos.

^
We used strong typography, applied directly to the jars, to create a bold look that distinguishes Little Lucas from the myriad brands on the market.

^
Celery helped the company launch their first store with a unique direct mail campaign. Rather than starting from the “junk-mail” paradigm of a plastic bag door hanger stuffed with glossy coupons, we imagined the project as an opportunity to give a small gift to 30,000 people. The resulting “gift box” contained free samples of natural health and wellness products along with illustrated coupons. The mailer was constructed with recycled chip board and featured a pop-out door hanger, which made it completely recyclable. Each box was delivered with a fresh flower tucked into a paper belly-band. People hate junk mail, but they love flowers.

:: RE-PUBLIC

Danish graphic design and communication agency Re-public.

"We develop visual identities that communicate clients' lines of work, values and feelings in logos, typography and graphic elements across all media platforms" - Morten Windelev, managing director.

"A new identity has to stand out, has to be daring and put itself on the line. Think of what shops or signs you remember when going through the city"

"The name comes from Latin: re means communication and public means the masses - hence communication with the masses"
Clever...

Absolutely love this work by Re-public. Kind of reminds me a lot of Non-Format, especially the typography.
Love the simplicity of the work. Nothing too over the top.
This is the kind of work I want to produce, these are the kind of people I want to work for. Working with logos, typography, layout and graphic elements across all media.
